The company produced the 1.5-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4EC engine from 1999 to 2012 and installed it on the second generation Hyundai Accent and its licensed counterparts. In most other countries, this engine was installed on local versions of the Accent only before restyling.

In 1999, two 1.5-liter power units appeared on the second generation of the Accent model, which differed in block heads: one 12-valve SOHC, and the second 16-valve DOHC. The G4EC motor had a cast-iron block, an aluminum 16-valve head with hydraulic lifters, and a combined timing belt and short chain between the camshafts. It also had multiport fuel injection and a dual coil ignition system.

On European and Korean versions of the Accent, this engine was installed only until the restyling of 2003, but in some other markets it was installed until the end of the model’s production in 2012.
